The President's Message

In 2008, I attended my first LHGC meeting as a guest of Nancy Lenoce.  I was very impressed with the warm welcome I received, and since joining LHGC have appreciated the friendliness and generosity of club members.  Whether it’s helping to put the Herb Garden to bed, potting for the plant sale, planting bulbs, or taking floral design classes, I always enjoy being in the presence of LHGC “threads”.   I feel the LHGC is like a tapestry, and each member is a thread in its design. Whether we are a warp or a weft, it is necessary for each of us to be involved and do our part to make the tapestry complete.   Garden tapestry is our theme this year.  Into this theme, we will weave programs on floral design, garden photography, pressed flowers, toxic chemicals and more.  We plan to continue the planting of daffodils around Trumbull, thanks to a $2000 grant from the Carstensten Foundation.  We hope you enjoy the coming year, increase your knowledge and your friendships, and contribute to LHGC’s endeavors to improve our community.   Next to my vegetable garden is a plaque whose sentiment encompasses my own.  As you sow and reap in your own gardens, I am sure you will concur with this sentiment, a quote from Dorothy Frances Guerney.

The kiss of the sun for pardon,

The song of the birds for mirth,

One is nearer God’s heart in a garden

Than anywhere else on earth.
